Ten years ago today, as a mother, I received one of the worst phone calls a mother can get. I was sitting in Country Kitchen, (now Whiskey Creek), with my mom, sister, and newborn nephew. The caller asked me where I was. I was then told I needed to get to the hospital right away as Cole, my oldest son. had been hit by a car on his moped. My body went numb but my mind went into overdrive. I get to the hospital before the ambulance and while giving them information they bring Cole in on a stretcher. All I see is blood and my son laying on his side with a neck collar on being brought to the ER. They would not let me back there right away and I said "try and stop me." The first thing Cole says to me is "mom, I am going to be ok." I see his injuries and think otherwise. X-rays indicated 3 broken bones in his hip, 2 compound fractures of the shin bone, cracked nose, and slight concussion. Life flighted to Rochester, in surgery before we arrived, tubes, wires,and lots of gadgets hooked up to him when brought to ICU. 12 days in the hospital, and over 2 years of Dr. care. Thank you all for your love, help, support and prayers through what was and could have been. We love you COLE and would be lost without you. Thank you God for letting me keep him. Cass you also know how much you are loved and thank you for being the best little brother you could be during that time. I thank God for both of you very day.
