Terror and pit and snare await you, people of the earth. Whoever flees at the sound of terror will fall into a pit; whoever climbs out of the pit will be caught in a snare. The floodgates of the heavens are opened, the foundations of the earth shake. The earth is broken up, the earth is split asunder, the earth is violently shaken. The earth reels like a drunkard, it sways like a hut in the wind; so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion that it falls—never to rise again. Isaiah 24:17-20 (NIV) It will be impossible to escape the devastation which to take place other than through the rapture. The only way to describe what is about to the visitation during the Great Tribulation is terrible. God’s judgment will not be a onetime shot, but will be reiterated throughout the tribulation. John refers to this same principle in Revelation 11:15-18: “The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.” And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying: “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. The nations were angry, and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your people who revere your name, both great and small—and for destroying those who destroy the earth.” As much as people would like to escape the judgment of God they can’t. In trying to escape the fear of it, the will fall into a pit. If they would be able to escape the pit, they will fall into the snare of God’s judgment. God’s judgment has enough back up plans so that no one will be able to escape. The only way to escape the judgment of God is to satisfy it, and there is only one place that God’s judgment has ever been satisfied – it was on the cross by the Lord Jesus. The earth will be going through intense tribulations as the judgments come in rapid fire. These judgments will touch everyone who is left upon the earth. The earth is to be broken up by earthquakes, volcanoes, and there will pestilences as the earth is unstable with floods, famines and wars. The earth gets progressively gets worse. It is no wonder Isaiah says, the earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard.
