Texting while driving and drunk driving are without a doubt major - TopicsExpress

Texting while driving and drunk driving are without a doubt major driving impediments, and those who engage in these activities deserve the consequences of a legal penalty . But I have long said that ticketing cell phone users is an infringement of rights that will open the door to a police state for drivers. It gives the police too much authority over what they think you might be doing. Holding a cell phone is no more distracting than holding a cup of coffee. In fact, holding a cup of hot coffee that spills is more of a hindrance than holding the phone. Many of the hands-free cell phone devices are more distracting than holding the phone........Recently, I wrote about the Distracted Drivers Law in Pennsylvania in which drivers are now being ticketed for eating in their cars. It was bound to happen, as the progressives know no bounds, and they will police the public as much as possible.......Now, in Oregon, under the Distracted Drivers Law, there is a Cognitive Distracted Driver infraction. Under this law, if you are daydreaming or engaged in conversation which is considered to be distracting, you will receive a $142.00 fine........According to authorities (can you say authoritarian government), if you are involved in conversation, you are not driving defensively. This law gives any policeman the opportunity to stop a driver for literally anything. There is always a way that law enforcement can indirectly draw a conclusion that someone is driving distracted.......When will Americans ever learn? You cannot give the police or your government too much power. The Distracted Driver Law is swiftly leading to a police state.
