Thank you Ed Coil for this mornings devotional: Purity Recently, God has had me reflecting on what is purity? As a child, winter would bring snowfall that would cover the ground; pristine and peaceful. That is until little boys started to mess it up. First came the snow angels (or snow demons as my mom called them), followed by the dogs that came and added their own mess. Add to that cars and pretty soon it’s dingy, dirty and gray. What was once pure is now dirty…. until the next snowfall. God calls us to live in purity and in the ability to love freely. James 1:2- says to “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.” Have you thought about how precious metals are purified? They go through fire (trials). Revelations 21:18, 21 tells us that in the New Jerusalem (heaven) the gold is pure, transparent like glass. Here on earth, precious metals have to retain some impurities in order to stay together; and like gold, while here on earth, we’ll always have some impurities. However, in heaven, we’ll be completely purified. In the meantime, let my life be transparent like the gold glass. Purify me! 1 Peter 2:2- Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk. Mothers milk has been filtered and the “junk” has been taken out. Christ death has filtered the junk to give pure spiritual milk. James 3:17- But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. These are the fruits of the spirit (Gal 5:22-23) which are to us our “medal of honor and jewels of life.” Your purity is dependent upon His work in your life, what are you allowing to become of you that doesn’t belong? The more you look like him the more the world will take notice and want to become like him. Sometimes the purity process can be painful, allow Him to shine and purify/filter you.
