Thank you to pediatrician Dr. Bob Sears for this study (and his thoughts) on milk. Does it do a body good? I think, NOT! I know we just discussed milk last week, but we rarely see a milk is bad study make the news, so I thought Id throw it out there. But one did. It showed that women who drank three or more glasses of milk a day had a HIGHER fatality rate (double) and a higher rate of hip fractures (50% increase) compared to women who drank less. Men showed a similar, but less pronounced, trend. And interestingly, those who ate more yogurt had the opposite effect - less likely to break a bone. Researchers cite some animal studies which show milk sugars may accelerate the aging process, which may explain why fermented dairy, like yogurt, may be healthier. I imagine the milk people arent happy about this. The authors do warn that they arent sure if their findings are due to the milk consumption factor or other nutritional or lifestyle factors. And this doesnt prove any sort of cause. But its interesting that the results of the study were opposite of what we have been taught to expect. I also find coverage of this study interesting. I didnt find it on CNN, ABC, or NBC. Found it on BBC and Fox. Whats up with that? You cant tell me that different media outlets will selectively report on health issues based on political or financial influences. Thats crazy talk. So, keep drinking milk - it does your body good. Got any? Living a milk life? Pick your slogan, and make sure you know a good orthopedist. Ok Ok. Enough milk bashing.
