With more than 25 years experience working in the community and a passion for facilitating junior chess Richard Weekes receives an open arm welcome to the Love where YOU live Fun day proceedings. March 2006 , Found Richard launching Greenwich Chess Group after research highlighted the low levels of chess activity in Greenwich schools. He decided to start teaching children and young people how to play and to promote the game as both an educational aid and a socially inclusive activity. Amazingly enough Richard has taught over 1200 children to play chess in primary and secondary schools in Greenwich, Lewisham, Lambeth and Southwark and previously taught at Foxfield, Plumcroft, Greenslade and Cherry Orchard primaries; and Plumstead Manor Girls, London Nautical, Walworth Academy and Deptford Green secondaries to name a heavy few. Richard currently teaches at Holy Trinity (Tulse Hill), Wingfield, Millennium, Charlton Manor and Adamsrill primaries in SE London and Brentfield, Leopold and John Keble primaries in Brent. There is clear evidence to demonstrate that children who learn chess perform better in school, have improved calculating ability, are more imaginative, creative, and self-motivated.
