Thanks to Kathy Sutphin for this (I knew about it, but its worth posting): 1985 Boys Basketball State Championship Recognition Game The 30th Anniversary celebration of the greatest Boys Basketball Team in Rutherford HS History is this Saturday, January 10. This years boys team will be playing Bergen Tech at Noon. At halftime, many of the 85 team members and Coach Bill Whitney will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishment. Please come out and support the past and present RHS student athletes. I remember this team well. They finished 28-1. They were unbeaten in BCSL National/Olympic conference play, lost to Northern Valley Demarest in double overtime in perhaps the best Bergen Jamboree final ever played, survived their first state game against Secaucus, and went on to capture the Group 2 title by defeating Burlington City at the Meadowlands. I still remember that they beat up on Elmwood Park in a tournament game, holding future Rutgers star Ricky Dadika to 20 (he averaged something like 38 that year). Bergen Jamboree (all at Hackensack HS) 1st round - def. Mahwah 60-54 2nd round - def. Ridgewood 78-57 Semifinal - def. Cliffside Park 90-74 Final - lost to NV/Demarest 68-64, 2 ot State tournament: 1st round - bye 2nd round - def. Secaucus 68-67 (at home) Sectional semifinal - def. Elmwood Park 74-54 (at Passaic Tech) Sectional final - def. Mahwah 58-55, 2 ot (at Hackensack HS) State semifinal - def. Clifford Scott 66-60 (at Fair Lawn HS) State final - def. Burlington City 60-58 (at Meadowlands Arena)
