The 29th Annual Ocklawaha River Raid re-enactment is rapidly drawing near. Once again we gather to commemorate the March 1865 Union raid on plantations along the Ocklawaha River east of Ocala. The resulting skirmish with local Confederate troops was the only engagement of the war to occur in Marion County. The event will take place on its traditional time frame of the first weekend in November (this year November 1-3). The 2nd Battalion of Hardys Brigade is pleased to announce a new and well suited site for this re-enactment at the Florida Horse Park on Highway 475 south of Ocala and west of Belleview. This years event is dedicated to Catherine Lois Kohl (1941-2013), who was called home to the Lord this past June. She was a key founding member of this event in 1985 and for many years she was a driving force in this re-enactment as it grew over the years. More information will be posted here in the days ahead.
