The City did not close down a party at the Four Points by Sheraton - TopicsExpress

The City did not close down a party at the Four Points by Sheraton yesterday, despite Facebook and other rumors. The rumors that the Sheraton was ordered to close down a party birthday party, of which people spent apparently a great deal of money in preparation is the result of much less than just imperfect or incorrect information; and, whoever facilitated the spread of that information needs to correct it and to begin to understand the processes of getting and disseminating proper information. The party was not cancelled, as rumored, for racial purposes, the city had nothing to do with it, and this is not a Ferguson MO situation. The problem occurred, according to a Sheraton official, due to the party initially being planned and contracted as a forty-something birthday party with only about fifty-people to attend with hours that could be accommodated by a facility that is primary guest lodging. Someone else, someone who was close to the event, added another member to the partys celebration that was significantly under forty-something, and added the additional interest in the party and its trappings -- including extending it to hours of celebration and staffing levels that the hotel could not immediately accommodate. Because of the mispostings and confusion around the event, in consultation between the contracted parties, they mutually agreed to cancel the party, with the offer of having it and the much larger party at a different time at the facility. The contracted party decided not to commit to such at the time and the hotel not only returned their deposit, but also did not charge them for the foodstuffs for which the hotels staff had previously prepared for the party. The contracted party left without financial consequence by the hotel; however, there may have been consequences to them for the other professional services outside of the hotels staff and facilities, such as entertainment services. The hotel asked me to pass on their apologies for any misunderstandings about the event; however, I will go a few steps further. I am very dismayed at not only the person who spread the Ferguson-hype, but also for those who listened to it without investigating it for themselves. Surely, these concerns, as expressed by the hype, should have reached those elected officials who should have had an interest in quelling the Ferguson-hype hysteria and putting this issue to rest. While I, an unpaid citizen, was out past 10:00 last night, along with Capt. David LeGault, investigating the roots of this problem, one has to wonder WHERE WAS COUNTY LEGISLATOR AND POLICE COMMUNITY LIAISON OWEN STEED? I am tired of doing his job while he sits around at comped political dinner tables and gets paid twice for doing absolutely nothing! WHERE WAS CITY COUNCILMAN CHARLES WALKER. When someone says that the city is pulling a Ferguson, then he should have been with Steed and investigating this stuff. Ken Hamilton should have been home enjoying his retirement.
