The Citys popular Go Long Beach app has been enhanced so the public can help the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) quickly locate and reduce water run-off. The enhancements to our Go Long Beach app will help us save water, irrigate as efficiently as possible and maintain our parks for the entire community to enjoy, Mayor Robert Garcia said. The Go Long Beach app allows anybody the opportunity to access City Hall 24/7, and quickly submit service requests for running water in a park, as well as issues such as potholes and graffiti. PRM staff will respond immediately to water running onto sidewalks or gutters, and can turn off the water and fix problems before the next irrigation cycle. Problems such as head misdirects or breaks, and vandalism can usually be fixed quickly. More serious main breaks can require ordering parts and may take longer. While our employees constantly strive to minimize water run-off, we need the publics help, said George Chapjian, Director of Parks, Recreation and Marine. We encourage the community to help us save water by using the Go Long Beach App and its new option, running water in a park. Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine is working hard to balance the need for safe, enjoyable parks for all residents, while fully embracing the necessity to use water responsibly in the current state-wide drought conditions. The Department irrigates 1,275 acres of parks and street islands; 54 percent are maintained with reclaimed water. LBPRM must irrigate recreational open spaces to keep them safe and functional for residents, including many who have no backyards and who rely on parks as places to relax and recreate. Thousands of mature trees and dozens of sports fields also depend on irrigation to remain viable. The Go Long Beach app is available on iTunes and Google Play as a free download. Anybody can use the App to select an issue, take a picture, and submit a service request. The App determines the exact location and sends the issue to city staff for a response. Users can also track the status of requests through their mobile device. Go Long Beach can also be accessed online at user.govoutreach/longbeach. PRM issues can also be reported through email to [email protected] or by calling 562.570.4895, or 562.570.3101 after hours.
