The Daily Express published over 100 headline stories about Madeleine in 2007. They also published a book later that year authored by the seemingly non existent Robert Downing. The book was called Madeleine A most heartbreaking and extraordinary disappearance. As part of the libel cases against the Express by the Tapas 7 and the McCanns, this book was withdrawn from sale. I bought a copy for research purposes and was shocked by the fact that the book is a pro McCann work of fiction. I had previously assumed that it was not favourable to the McCanns and thats why it was withdrawn from sale. After reading it, the book reinforces what I believed at the time: the Daily Express settlement was a big ruse engineered as a vehicle to put a large sum of money in the pockets of the Tapas 9 to keep them sweet. It was also done with Murat. There is absolutely nothing libelous towards the Tapas 9 in this piece of fiction. It is pure propaganda.
