The Diocese of Gloucester has announced that Bishop Michael Perham - TopicsExpress

The Diocese of Gloucester has announced that Bishop Michael Perham is to retire with immediate effect - he had announced his intention to retire but not until November. The press have been sniffing around wondering whether theres story behind the sudden announcement. Im sad that Michael is retiring early. Hes been a very good, supportive friend to Changing Attitude. He was also, of course, one of the bishops who failed to question the Pastoral Guidance when it was discussed in February, but not alone. I calculate that at least 20 and possibly as many as 30 bishops disagree with the document, and those who issued statements afterwards indicated their dissent. But post-agreement dissent isnt enough. It remains a puzzle as to why they allowed the Guidelines to be published, especially now there is a rift in the House, with some bishops wanting to take the least action possible and others wielding the axe.
