The Fruit of Patience Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Have you found yourself praying “Lord make me more patient!” well you are not alone. In fact, it seems as though patience evaporates when we are late for an important meeting or waiting in a queue at the bank. Being forced to wait builds up all the stress and shortens our endurance and when this happens we not only fail to be patient but we undermine the Spirit’s work in our lives. Patience is not only a virtue but a fruit of the Holy Spirit which means that demonstrations of impatience reveal the sour fruit of our fallen hearts rather than the sweetness of Jesus in our lives. Since God is a patient God, when we abandon patience, we miss the opportunity to show our world the glory of God through our lives. Patience gives us the opportunity of sharing the refreshing fruit of God with others. So let’s take a deep breath and turn our focus away from ourselves by patiently loving others instead of focusing on ourselves in the midst of stress.
