The Greatest Gift Ever This past week I thoroughly enjoyed a video of a 3-year-old unwrapping a huge present (youtu.be/ral3Ui9XDjU). Initially she was having more fun with the size of the gift. After a couple of minutes, and having removed every single piece of paper from the huge box, she finally got to lift the flaps on the top of the gift. As soon as she began to lift the flaps her gift popped out. It was her dad who had returned from Afghanistan. The joy of the little girl, hugging her daddy, was mirrored in tearful sounds of her mother who was filming the event. This celebratory time of year is accentuated by stories of homecoming. No doubt during the next 2 Sunday services we will have many of our “children” coming home. In Psalm 73:25–26, Asaph, a chief musician appointed by David, reflects on the most precious homecoming we will ever have. 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever (ESV). As we sit down with our family, and unwrap those beautiful gifts, let us be mindful of the greatest gift of all – Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
