The IRS just announced that its Taxpayer Bill of Rights has now been translated into five languages in addition to English. The document was adopted by the tax agency in June. Here are the 10 basic provisions: See link https://bizactions/modules/s/popup_timelyopp_preview.cfm?art=2388 More information is available about each of the provisions on the irs.gov website and in IRS Publication 1, Your Rights as a Taxpayer. The Bill of Rights document has been translated into Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Russian and Vietnamese. By making this important publication available in multiple languages, the IRS hopes to increase the number of Americans who know and understand their rights under the tax law, the IRS stated. Why Was the Document Adopted? In introducing the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, the IRS explained the rationale for the new document: The tax code includes numerous taxpayer rights, but they are scattered throughout the code, making it difficult for people to track and understand. In addition, noted National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson, surveys have shown that most taxpayers do not believe they have rights before the IRS and even fewer can name their rights. The rights contained in the new document are not new, emphasized IRS Commissioner John A. Koskinen. While these rights have always been there for taxpayers, we think the time is right to highlight and showcase these rights for people to plainly see, he added.
