The Land of No Portholes Heres a little tour of the E/R, my mate Glen wanted to see it so I thought Id post for all, you have everything from our boiler plant, aux power generation plant, both the HP and LP components of our propulsion plant, The ships main propulsion turbines are designed to efficiently convert the thermal energy of steam into useful mechanical energy to propel the ship through the water. As work is extracted from steam its pressure decreases. The high pressure turbine is designed to efficiently extract work out of the high pressure steam as it initially enters the main propulsion turbines. The low pressure turbine is designed to efficiently extract work out of steam which is exhausting out of the high pressure turbine at a lower pressure. High pressure turbine: The high pressure (HP) turbine is the first main engine turbine to receive steam from the main steam system. It is designed to efficiently extract work out of high pressure steam. The HP turbine is a pressure-velocity compounded, single axial flow, non-condensing impulse turbine. Low pressure (LP) turbine: The LP turbine is located next to the HP turbine. The LP turbine is a pressure compounded, either single or dual axial flow, condensing reaction turbine. You also have pics of our workshops, heavy fuel oil purifiers (aux gen sets) If you have any more questions just PM me mate, I dont want to bore the rest of facebook with engineering shop talk..lol Cheers J :
