The Luke-Acts Project, Week 5, day 2: Luke 5:1-11 - Catching The Attention Of A Fisherman. As we set out to catch an inspiring word from our reading today, lets look at some rugged guys, tough Jews who were spending their lives hauling in fish, mending nets, maintaining their tubs and somehow putting enough together to make a living. And then came Jesus. He changes everything. We get a great chance here to start to see how Jesus works with people, in the way He gets ahold of Peters attention. By this time, Peter and the other fishers have seen Jesus demonstrate a command of the Scriptures, a command over sickness, a command over suffering, a command over demons, a command of Himself. They are already in awe of Him. But He isnt their life. Not yet. Those fish are THEIR LIFE. They are fishermen. They live and die by the catch of the day. And now here comes that outcast Nazarene carpentry journeyman/itinerant preacher boy, and Hes going to demonstrate a command over THE FISH. A command over their life. Because He catches their attention with the miraculous catch of fish, He then can take them from the concept of fish-catching (Greek agra /AH•grah/ or agran /AH•grahn/) and brings them to the concept of people-catching (zogron /zoh•GRŌN/) which is literally life + catch = catch alive. It is for them the next level, to catch people so theyll live abundantly for the love of God and forever with Jesus and for His sake. So what do you do good? Jesus can do something attention-grabbing there, too. And then Hell grab us and bring us along if we are willing. He shows us something, He tells us something, then He MAKES US INTO something. Catch the pattern. Remember the pattern. Jesus meets us where we live, or what we think of as living, and if were willing, takes us to the next level. The figurative other shore. https://youtube/watch?v=spI2TpBOtJU
