The Making Ararat A+ program works to normalise university - TopicsExpress

The Making Ararat A+ program works to normalise university education for children in the Ararat region and its making a massive impact. The way it works is simple: kids visit cool places and meet cool people, like a football club or a group of musicians. But they also meet people working in the industry who arent so visible, like the finance staff, the medical staff, and the PR team. The kids hear about how university education got these people their dream job, and how they can be whatever they want if they believe in themselves and get a good education. In 2009, before the program started, only 29% of children at Ararat College went on to university or TAFE. In 2014 55% of the 2013 cohort are currently at university, including 78% of those who participated in the program. Most of those kids are the first member of their family to go on to tertiary education. We want it to be the start of a new era.
