The Myth of Competition Some boat races require all contestants to use the same kind of vessel so the competition actually measures skill. But most of life isn’t like that. People come from radically different backgrounds and are naturally endowed or handicapped with specific talents, opportunities and encouragement. Each person receives distinctly unique facilitation or constraint. If you’re ever tempted to consider yourself superior to someone else because you excel in particular areas, keep in mind that you can’t really know what kind of boat they’re in.
