We’re about 60 games into the season and it’s important to not put too much stock into the win/loss records at this point. We all know the Cardinals were good enough to get to the World Series last year and this year’s edition is probably a little better on paper. Michael Wacha is quickly establishing himself as the future ace of the staff. He turned plenty of heads during this rookie campaign and it’s continued on into 2014. Wacha is 4-3 with a 2.45 ERA and 1.06 WHIP despite the league seeing him for a second time this year. He’ll face a terrible Kansas City lineup that has struggled to score runs for the majority of the season. This isn’t a patient team at the plate and they’re going to have to make some big changes offensively if they want to compete for a playoff spot. Youngster Yordano Ventura takes the hill for the Royals and he’s dazzled so far in his rookie season. However, he had a pretty big injury scare and was skipped in the rotation last time around. The team insists that he is alright, but they will be extra careful with him and I’d be surprised if he throws more than 90 pitches in this one. That’s an advantage for the Cardinal and I think they get the job done today with Wacha on the mound. Play St. Louis at the short price as they look to get things going.
