The Peoples Garden has become a vital community gathering space in north Minneapolis where children learn to grow vegetables and neighbors get to know each other. But the citys department of Community Planning and Economic Development wants to uproot the garden just to let the lot sit empty again. CPED has twice attempted to uproot the garden ostensibly on the basis of high lead levels in the soil, but three different tests, including CPEDs, have shown the overall lead levels are fine.
