The Tomb of the Cybermen opens season 5 with Victoria being shown - TopicsExpress

The Tomb of the Cybermen opens season 5 with Victoria being shown around the TARDIS in a scene which looks wonderful as it is recorded on film rather than videotape. We then move to Telos and join in an expedition to find the Cybermen. The crew are a mixed bunch with the characters of Klieg and Kaftan being obviously up to something. The Doctor is wonderful in this story, helping the expedition get into the tombs even though he tries to tell them not to go on. He is also sneaky in the scene where Kaftan traps Victoria and Viner goes for help the Doctor can be seen watching and only intervening before Kaftan can press a lever that would do Victoria some damage. There are also some comedy moments when the Doctor and Jamie grab each others hand thinking its Victoria is a good scene. Jamie begins to really show his bravery and loyalty to the Doctor as on a few occasions he would rather not go into danger but does so because the Doctor asks him to. It is funny when he tries to leave in episode 2. Victoria shows her bravery when dealing with Kaftan and manages to get the upper hand with Captain Hopper be the end of the story. The Cybermen and the Cybercontroller are menacing especially when walking thorough he smoke and of course leaving the cells of their tomb. It is also noticeable that the Cybermen tower over the other cast members making their presence even more imposing. If there is a weakness in this story it is with the characterisation of Toberman. It has been said that the character was meant to be wearing a hearing aid however that does not really excuse the way he acts as a servant to Kaftan when he maybe should have been written more as a bodyguard. For many years this story was missing then in 1991 it was announced that this complete story had been found in Hong Kong. I was over the moon and managed to get a copy shortly after release on VHS. It was wonderful to watch this story lost for so long which in my opinion does live up to its classic status.
