The Toronto Police Service is currently seeking applicants interested in becoming Auxiliary members. Toronto Police Auxiliary Member Auxiliary volunteers have been an essential part of policing in Toronto since its inception in 1957. At that time, administration and oversight of the Auxiliary function was incorporated into the new structure of the Toronto Police Service. Eventually, the role of the Auxiliary was formally recognized through the Police Services Act, related regulations and Service Governance. Currently, over 400 strong, Auxiliaries volunteer approximately 70,000 hours annually of their time to assist the Service in areas that include community mobilization initiatives, crime prevention programs, special events, parades, searches for missing persons and emergency call-outs. The Auxiliary Program is staffed by people from all walks of life, from home-makers to tradesmen, university students to professionals and more. Their visible presence within the community, continued assistance and support of policing activities has been identified as an integral component of the Toronto Police Service. The Auxiliary Program has provided valued service not only to Service members but to our many communities within the City of Toronto in a professional and competent manner since its inception. Candidates are expected to: • Volunteer a minimum of 150 hours per year • Reside in the Greater Toronto Area (Durham, Peel, York, Toronto) • Complete all ongoing training as required The BASIC REQUIREMENTS for the position are as follows: • Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada • Be a minimum of 18 years of age • Have successfully completed at least 4 years of secondary school or equivalent. (Note: official transcripts and diplomas will be required). • Not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted • Be a fully licenced driver and meet the requirements of the Graduated Licencing system in the province of Ontario, having accumulated no more than 6 demerit points • Meet the vision standards which include: colour, peripheral and depth perception requirements, and have uncorrected visual acuity of 20/40, and best corrected acuity of 20/30 with both eyes open (binocularly). • Be physically able to perform the duties of the position, with regard to personal safety and the safety of the public • Must have Standard First Aid and C.P.R.
