The amount of hatred and tribalism exhibited by our Youths daily - TopicsExpress

The amount of hatred and tribalism exhibited by our Youths daily is beyond me. So sad to see supposed leaders holding each other by the neck, dishing out vitriol to prove their tribes or ethnic groups are superior. It just seems the good of social media has been defeated as many youths now use social platforms to register their bitterness towards selected tribes. It is more pathetic to see Masters and Ph.D holders raining insults on one another, all because of one political leader who doesn’t care if they feed or not. No wonder our parents are scared of handling leadership positions to us; thats why political parties National Youth Leaders are people who we can call Grandparents. The cry for active youth representation in political offices seems to be a cry in the wilderness. Believe me; most of us will make bad leaders taking cognizance with what we utter every day. Theres this latent hate in every youth that get exposed when they see keypads. Even on Facebook, ordinary Group Admins see themselves as lords - they display poor leadership traits and get happy when members plead not to be deleted. Thats why me no send any group things for Facebook, because them go delete you come leave their friends wey commit the same offense wey dem accuse you of. Make I see weda dem go come delete me from my timeline na. Our parents know we are volatile and highly bias, thats why they thread carefully with us. And these are parents that instill hate and bitterness in us, maybe they dont want us to make good leaders. Youths dont read or seek information, they believe everything their parents tell them and come on social media to display their ignorance. You get worried and scared of the future when you read comments on Facebook and Twitter - comments made by youths. Our youths have lost it, and political leaders on Facebook are not helping matters at all. Our parents wont be with us forever. If they are gone, can we make good leaders with this bitterness we carry in our hearts? And a disturbing aspect to all these is that our youths are not concerned in being good leaders, they are looking for platforms to perch and make quick money. Thats why some youths clung to corrupt political leaders, receive peanuts and come to social media to insult themselves. In Heavens name, why are we behaving like enemies? I have suffered tribalism before. I have never told anyone of my family experiences in Benue State - where I grew up. Telling my stories wont improve anything, but at the same time, I do appreciate the importance of sharing such stories. Believe me, our youths are so immature that when the actual truths are told of the Nigerian Civil War, they would go about killing themselves. Rwanda celebrate the 1994 genocide every year, not because they are happy, but because they recognized the gravity of what happened and vowed to avoid such mistakes. We will end up bad if we continue to hold bitterness and hate in our hearts. We shouldnt end up being like our current political leaders - we should strive to be different. Yes, many wrongs were made in the past, but we just have to forget and move on. Religion should be the last thing to bring hate amongst us. Tribe and ethnicity shouldnt also. We are the now and the future. We should recognize first that we are Nigerians. Insults wont provide solutions, love and hard work will.
