The idea/ideal is fairly nice, considering the publicity does provoke some thoughts, debates, etc, and inevitably arouse some emotions, both positive and negative. From purely such an aspect it might as well be deemed as an artform, with the openly display of centuries-old abstract ritual from virgin to not-virgin. Somehow the issues surrounding virginity or how it complexes with different gender roles is so much more unmanageable that, from what I could tell, it wont come out as ideally or explicitly as he expects.
