...The image Iran has tried to give ever since the 1979 Revolution has always been the same: “We are surrounded by enemies on all sides!” Was that really so? Or did Iranian regimes, Iranian mullahs and the Iranian mindset themselves create that perception? Was the goal to create an atmosphere of paranoia, or perhaps to apply the requirements of socialist/Marxist systems with harsh words and measures; was it to portray itself as strong by giving the appearance of being fanatical, oppressive and always ready to repel an attack? The aim was one or more of these, of course and Iran achieved its aim; other countries with oppressive regimes, dictatorships and nuclear programs were set aside and all attention turned to Iran alone.
