The intervention of Governor Rochas Okorocha in ensuring the settlement of ezeship tussle ( struggle among candidates for the throne of the Monarch) in some communities of Imo state has continued to yield dividend as four eze-elects emerged on Wednesday. Those that emerged are Hilary Okonkwo of Okirika Nweke community in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Francis Ogbonnaya of Naze community in Owerri North LGA, John David Nwaturuocha of Ngurunwekeoha community in Aboh Mbaise LGA. Chief Anthony Akunwigwe was nominated as Eze elect for Okuku community in Owerri West while Mbaama community in Owerri North was deferred to allow further consultation. For Irete community in Owerri West LGA, government ordered for a fresh election on June 19, 2013, after discovering that the previous elections were inconclusive. In a related development, Governor Okorocha has stated that staff of office will be presented to Traditional Rulers whose Ezeship tussle have been resolved. The Governor disclosed this at Ahiajioku Convention Center in Owerri recently while brokering peace among various communities that have Ezeship dispute. He noted that the situation had lingered in various communities thereby hampering development and smooth take-off of community government in the rural areas, adding that his involvement was to find lasting solution to the problems, as various committees set up to look into the matter failed to do their job. He also maintained that community government cannot function effectively without involving Traditional Rulers. In view of these, Ezeship tussle in 10 communities have been amicably resolved and 5 communities were directed to conduct fresh elections. The governor however warned those who may attempt to derail the peace moves by creating problems to desist from it or face the full weight of the law. - See more at: imostate.gov
