The issue of illegal immigrants into d eastern and north eastern states,especially West Bengal and Assam has become an electoral subject with rival political parties warring it out with no holds barred in what is presumably d largest election in the history of d largest democracy in the world.On a larger perspective,this is a serious issue which astonishingly many political pandits either brand as vote bank politics or even worse give it a communal colour. The fact of the matter is that it lacks d necessary attention that it richly deserves owing to its sheer menacing capabilities .Infact its so perilous a concern that it lead to d indo pak war of 1971..one has to digest d bitter fact that we simply donot have the resources to support every asylum seeker that manages to cross the border.moreover turning a blind eye to it creates a havoc as indegenous communities(like bodos) feel threatened in their homeland and resort to violence. This brings us to the question of whether large scale eviction of the immigrants is the solution..it is neither plausible nor humane.D only option ofcourse is holding bilateral talks with the neighbour but with a higher level of conviction and a stronger political will..hoping that the new govt will revive the defunct ministry of north eastern region,give it wide powers and help the seven sisters establish a tranquil environment conducive for development.
