The journey with Simple Image has not been a smooth one. It started out as the River Deep project, then three years ago .an angel came in to my life in the form of Daniel Fernandes, introduced to me by an extraordinary talented young muso Vince Connell. The magic was instantly there and guitarist Chris Cornelius joined us and also came up with the name Simple Image but thats another story. Lets just say that Chris was struggling with his own demons and he left the band. At this point I remembered that during the River Deep time when Charles Knighton-Pullen was our axeman and let us down at the last minute, that Alessandro Batazzi had offered to help out, so I got in touch with Alessandro and he joined up and wow, is all I can say! This was the stuff that dreams are made of. Considering that our youngest member, Dan, was in his early twenties and me the oldest in my sixties with Alex somewhere in the middle, the age gap made absolutely no difference, we were just musos sharing a common passion and playing music we wanted to play. Then the year before last Alex signed up to play for the Rocky Horror show which kept him occupied for nearly six months. Alex is a professional musician so we could hardly deny him the opportunity and so Simple Image had to take a break. A year later Rocky Horror came back to the Cape and we again had to bid farewell to Alex. Now a third and could be a final blow to Simple Image, Daniel, who is a young man and busy finding himself has notified us that he needs to take a sabbatical to pursue spiritual and personal interests. The thing is, where do you find another Daniel, a bassist of note and we dont even want to mention the vocal ability, were looking at a sort of Jack Bruce with the vocal range of Robert Plant and Steve Marriot. Earlier I referred to Daniel as an angel and that is because talent like this cant be taught, its a god-given gift, a young man in his mid-twenties with more knowledge about the sixties and seventies music than I or ten others will never know. Alex and I want to carry on with Simple Image and we will be auditioning for a replacement, I can think of quite a few bassists that could do the job, but the vocals, we will probably have to stretch the band to four and get a dedicated vocalist and even then it will NEVER be the same.
