In the words of Suzuki: The industry and environmental groups must come together starting from a fundamental platform of agreement. The problem is conversations generally begin within the context of economics and that is the wrong entry point. Lets come together and leave vested interests at the door. Lets start with basic set of agreements. (Suzuki appeals to everyone on this): Can we all agree on what the foundation of our species is? Lets start off by saying we are biological creatures. As such, the highest priroity we have is a breath of air. If we dont have air, within 4-5 mins, were dead. If we breathe contaminated or polluted air, were sick. So is not clean air at the absolute top of our basic need? Then you can proceed through water, then soil that gives us our food and sunlight that gives us photosynthesis, that gives us our energy and biodiversity, which keeps us alive as animals. Then if we can agree those are our most fundamental needs that have to be protected - then we can begin to ask: How do we make a living? how do we farm? without compromising the fundamental things. It is then that we will be all working TOGETHER for the same thing.
