The name of this group is: If you grew up in Newbern, you remember..., and I do indeed. I remember an America where the streets were relatively safe; where children could wander unattended, unwatched, and unafraid; where we learned courtesy and respect; where our country, though flawed, supported her allies and crushed her enemies; and where history wasnt just the memorization of facts but the awareness of lessons learned by mankind. In History and Latin classes we discussed Nero as the embodiment of corrupt and despotic leadership. I still remember the lesson: In 64 C.E. the Emperor played the Lyre while watching Rome burn and Romans die. He destroyed much of the city to rebuild it into his idea of what it should be. I was amazed how long the citizens of Rome cowered under this tyrant. He committed suicide on 9 June 68 C.E., ending the dilemma. Since 2009 C.E. the Liar has played Emperor while watching the world burn and Americans die. He is destroying our nation to rebuild it into his idea of what it should be. I dont blame the Democrats, the Republicans, or the Independents. I blame us all because after a disastrous first term, we elected him for another four years. And if he could run for a third term, Im sure he would win again because the opposition still has not produced a viable alternative. Somewhere in America, there lives a man or woman with the talents, intelligence, and patriotism to lead. Lets stop complaining and find that person. There will not be a bill of impeachment or a resignation, nor any other action that legally changes our leadership. We must take the action our constitution calls for and vote. That is the action required and the lesson we were taught. Yes, we learned the lessons at NHS/DCHS. Its a pity the rest of America couldnt grow up in Newbern.
