The origin of the Matthews surname revealed! Im often asked if Matthews is my real last name and why I use it. For those unaware, its not my actual last name. Its Mirmina. I used my real name on Bleacher Report when I first started writing for them back in 2010, but it was that New Years Eve (four years ago today) that I changed it to Matthews. Why Matthews, you ask? Because I thought it sounded cool! OK, that was only partly the reason. Matthews is William Regals real last name and I always thought it sounded better with my first name instead of Mirmina (since both Graham and Matthews have English origins). And as for GSM? Theyre my initials! I laugh whenever anyone asks me what the significance of that is because youd think it was obvious. But Ive been using GSM for the last five years, dating back to my freshman year of high school. I used to tag it at the end of my Facebook statuses (like an idiot) before adding it to the middle of my pen name, Graham Matthews, when I wrote wrestling articles. So there you go! Another mystery solved. Ive been thinking about changing my actual last name to Matthews for the longest time, but maybe at some point down the line. And it always makes me smile whenever someone calls me GSM. Dont know why but it does! Its also hard to believe its been four years since I changed my pen name to that. Time flies!
