The origins of your race car! ever wondered how formula ford came to be?well you can thank a couple of guys called Geoff Clark & John Webb who at an informal meeting at a race car show in England discussed the possibility of building a fleet of identical open wheel race cars powered by the new reliable Ford Cortina engine.they believed the car would make a great entry level racer and felt that if they called it Formula Ford that they would get the backing of the Ford motor company?Sure enough Fords competition manager Henry Taylor agreed to supply Clark and Webb with 54 Ford Cortina GT engines at a cost of 50 pounds each 15 pounds below retail ( Ah the good old days )Webb then approached the royal automobiles competition director to establish rules for this new class and in late 1967 Ford announced the new Formula Ford class to the world. The first stand alone Formula Ford race took place at Brands Hatch on July 2nd 1967 with the eventualwinner being Ray Allen driving a MRS Lotus 51 Thanks guys!
