The other morning I was lying in bed, Wanda was standing on the edge of the bed playing with our dog Peanut. She would make pawing gestures at him and he would try and nibble on her hands. This went on for a few minutes and as usual he started to get aggravated and the fun was over. We were talking about what a good dog he is and we talked about how he became our pet. We picked him up at the Albertville pound just hours before he was to be destroyed. The only reason he was going to be destroyed is because his time was up, he had been held for seven days and it was time for him to die. We talked about how we were blessed to have Peanut as our pet and how unfortunate it is that there are many dogs just like him at local pounds right now. This morning we have had calls regarding dogs in Mobile, and Anniston that have no time left, the other day some dogs in Guntersville were due to be destroyed. Typically, large breed, black dogs are the ones left at the shelters. They have done nothing wrong except get caught by animal control. Many of them probably walked up to the animal control officer and greeted him, waiting for a pat on the head, not realizing what was going to happen next. If you have any room in your heart and your home right now is a good time to find your Peanut, shelters are full, pounds are full and even though you cant save them all, maybe you can save one. This is the first of August, wouldnt it feel good to know that on this first day of the month you gave life to an animal that cant survive without you. Time is of the utmost importance, please go find your Peanut, I think you will be glad you did. - Doug
