The part I made yesterday was turned on the lathe from Acetol rod. Acetol is amazing for making precise parts, it machines really well, but Acetol doesnt like paint or being sanded, so it can be difficult getting rounded edges or a super smooth finish. I decided to make a throw away mold of the part. I used Smooth-On Stroke for the mold, Its super cheap, so great for these throw away jobs. I cast up a number of parts and finished them, sanding in chamfered edges, trimming of the flange then getting a nice smooth finish. 2 of these will be used to finish off the Duke Fleed helmet, another 2 will be properly molded so I can make duplicates for kits in the future. Its never just a simple job :)
