The phrase National Treasure is wildly overused and I avoid it, - TopicsExpress

The phrase National Treasure is wildly overused and I avoid it, but former Marine Infantryman and Raider Ed Bearss, the Historian Emeritus of the NPS, meets and surpasses my rigorous personal criteria for the title. He is indeed a living National Treasure. I heard him speak on the Battle of Mansfield a few years ago; although we were in an auditorium in Hillsboro, Texas, in my memory we were walking the battlefield over in Louisiana while Ed Bearss was spinning the story, making it real and recent and personal for all of us listening. He has been a huge influence for me and countless other boots-on-the-ground historians.
