The picture above is world class??? The Pace East School - TopicsExpress

The picture above is world class??? The Pace East School houses special education students from K to 12th grade. It is 100% trailers, there is not brick and mortar structure. There is no gym or cafeteria. These kids have been in trailers for almost 3 years now and will be until 2016 when they move into the old Independent Hill School. During storms, threats, etc. these students have to walk up the road to the Independent Hill gym until all is clear. This is also where they go for indoor gym and cafeteria services. The old Pace East was closed because it did not meet ADA requirements. Trailers were the temporary solution but 5 years is not temporary to me. Is it to you? The Independent Hill School has been cited as well, the second floor has been deemed unusable for students. The cafeteria is detached, so all students have to dress for the weather to go to the cafeteria. Students in this school have varies physical disabilities. The gym at Independent Hill was once a pool but was closed due to safety concerns, air quality and the need for space. In 2016 the Independent Hill students will move back to base schools, not necessarily in their neighborhoods but to spaces that is currently being established for them. The new Pace East School will open in 2018 where the trailers sit today. The administration would like to have that new building hold Pace East, New Dominion and New Directions students. Special Education students are guaranteed the right to have the least restrictive environment. New Dominion and New Directions meet the need of all types of students, many have been expelled from their base school and present with very different needs. Whose idea was it to put these schools together? Does it seem like PWCS would like to house all these problematic students together so we can pretend they dont exist? This site is on an old air force radar station next to Quantico. The new school will sit behind the warehouses. Tell me does this sound like a population of students that are being valued? Is this the best PWC can offer? Simple question: If we had an entire group of general education students in trailers for three years would it be acceptable? Why is it okay for these special education students? If a brick and mortar building was available would you expect the administration to move the kids into that building even if it meant moving administrative staff? The last picture on this post is the old school board building at the Independent Hill site. It has a cafeteria. It houses administration, mostly facilities management. Why cant they be in the KLB or the trailers? Why is it acceptable to have special education students in trailers we wont put administrative staff in?
