The problem is that police are trained to drive under extreme circumstances. Its not that they are above the law its that they are exempt from some laws because they are qualified to handle situations that most people are not prepared for... if most people were asked to go through the driving qualifications that police offers were required to go through, most people wouldnt have a drivers license. If the trucker wants to pull people over for driving unsafely, he should become a police officer. The problem with this video is that it discredits real misconduct and it gives police officers no reason to be nice. The cop didnt cite him and the result is that people are going all over the internet taking the lack of citation to be an admission of guilt... so the next time this cop decides to stop someone, if he doesnt cite them is it going to be an admission of guilt? The article claims this is how we incite positive change... if positive change is creating tension and division between people and police, then, yes, it does that. I see nothing positive about that... I will admit that Im not partial to anyone that drives around with the mask of a religious terrorist, but thats just an aside. What makes this trucker an expert on the law? Nothing I saw in the video... The fact is... police and emergency personal are exempt from cellphone laws. (ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/fulltext.asp?DocName=062500050K12-610.2 - (d) This Section does not apply to: (1) a law enforcement officer or operator of an emergency vehicle while performing his or her official duties;) Does the truck driver know the officer was not doing his official duties? If people want police officers to not be able to exceed the speed limit while on duty or use mobile phones, then they should change the laws. This claim that laws are no longer relevant is just juvenile.
