The rosebush next to the ramp up to our deck died last summer. Trying to decide what to replace it with. I am a bit reluctant to put another rose there because 1) I think the last one died of some sort of disease and I dont know if its still in the soil, and 2) the rose had a tendency to encroach on the ramp. Whatever I put there it needs to be tolerant of benign neglect, chicken resistant but not insanely toxic, and preferably sort of compact. Ideas?
