The sound of shoes thudded across the ground, the floors of what - TopicsExpress

The sound of shoes thudded across the ground, the floors of what used to be a pristine home, a two story house, humble and befitting of us. What was left of us brought tears to my eyes. Clenching out the tears spawning, I ran in, expecting to see my beloved friend hurt, and I would help her. But inside, in my gut, I knew thats not what Id find. Shed always been like this, hurt, in pain, gifted with a power that made her parents fearful. Gifted with a power that killed her parents. I was the only one to try with her, and try is exactly what I did, from the bottom of my heart. But I was too late. Nidia! Stop! Stop! I cried out, reaching the room she resided in, panting, my eyes lowered, my tall body hunched in a broken way. I was sore, in pain. On the ground before me, she sat. The girl I thought I knew, unruly silvery hair, draping down her back. I could see the bones of her spine struggling against the taut skin of her back. She looked frail, unfed, unwell. When she turned her head to me, I saw nothing but emptyness in those once sorrowful green eyes. The girl I once knew had been driven to the end of her tether. Im sorry Ene... its over... She murmured, her voice dry and hurt my ears to listen to, so empty and emotionless, I cant do this anymore... Only then did I let my blue eyes wander. And then I saw it. Bones. A pile of bones, blood and... a strange, skinlike ooze surrounding them. She stood up slowly, and I noticed something. Her face wasnt just taut, but it had a large growth on her chin. As she stood, the growth split open, spreading across her face. Her features changed, and her face returned to that beautiful face I know and love. But her eyes did not change. Multiple growths on her body split and spread, engulfing her body in a formless ooze of what seemed to be melted skin and blood, reforming a body that was all too familiar. She was shorter than me, but still tall and strong, as our kind were. She slowly approached the bile formed on the wall. Her hand reached and touched it, absorbing it within her. I cringed in horror, dry reaching. I knew she had this power. The power of cells that engulfed her body. Wound her, and she healed instantly. Rip off her arm, it reformed fast. But this, was horrifying. Now those cells were reduced to melted bile and gore. It was disgusting. They came for me... again... I cant do this any more... W-what do you mean, Nidia!? Youd done it for all your life, and Ive helped you! Are you going to be that selfish!? I pleaded, now reduced to my knees. I could sense something bad was going to happen. The gauntlet I wore on my wrists extended, panels and electronics reaching out and engulfing my hands, the sonic rotations they created charging. I had to stop her. But... Its not selfish if I take you with me... She spoke softly, turning her head to me. I stopped, my heart stopped, my brain numbed. She gave me a heart chilling, blood curdling grin. Her teeth had been broken, and reformed as a horrid set of sharp razors, her eyes wide, her pupils small, her insanity clear. I stumbled back. She... she.... Join me, Ene! Become one with me! She leapt at me, her hands melting to form claws of bone, saliva dripping from her toungue. I bit my lip, closed my eyes, and swung my arm like a hammer. The sonic rotation shredded as I swung, tearing my dearest in half, head to toe. I trembled as I felt her blood, hot and slimy, cover me, the thud of her corpse hitting the ground behind me. I rolled forward, turning, but as expected, she was already reforming, tendrils of blood and skin reaching out and connecting the two pieces, and pulling them together again. I tried to wipe off the blood, but it was futile. She leapt at me again, insanity in her eyes. Its OVER! She screamed, as I jumped back, tumbling through the holes in the wall. Her arms buried into the ground, two tendrils erupting out from under me, trying to impale me and end my life. But I had fought worse than that. Nimbly, I dodged and weaved, rushing back inside. I shot rotations from my gauntlets in her general directions, hearing the sickening slices as they rended her body, but she reformed just as fast, slamming through the wall, just to my right. Her leg swept and tried to catch me in the neck, but I was too quick. Years of military experience kept me fit, while Nidia was devoid of experience. But I felt the futility grasp my heart. This wasnt the Nidia I knew. This was a monstrosity I helped create. Exhausted, I tried to duck into a hallway, thinking my hardest. I kept trying to ward Nidia away with rotations, but she kept coming, a barrage of blood and spikes trying their hardest to taste my blood. Eventually, I started to feel the wounds. A huge gash on my hip, rakes of claws along my chest and thighs, a broken foot. It all came in one big rush, and I fell against a wall, trying to keep myself propped with one leg. Suddenly, my heart jumped, and I heard the horrible noise of splatter. I slowly looked down, eyes wide. A tendril of her had impaled me, to the wall, through the gut, my stomach acid corroding her, and myself, but slowly, I felt her creeping through me. Her skin, her blood, infusing with mine, converting mine to her. I felt horrible, and blood gushed from my throat, coughing and throwing up blood and pieces of myself. I heard her laugh, her arm inside of me, reforming my body, but as a part of her. She leaned in, whispering to me, Im a greater being now, Ene... our pathetic kind cant hold me back... I cant be defeated... youve lost, and so has this race... I was chosen, to do this... chosen to eradicate! This power I was born with, isnt a curse... its a blessing, giving me the power... to strike back at those so pathetic... Die, Ene... you were never needed. She spoke so coldly it brought tears and blood to my eyes. My vision faded. Im sorry... *cough*... that I fai-... led... you Ni... dia... I managed, before she had twisted her arm, bringing my life to an end. My body was now hers. She absorbed it within her. She replenished her cells, her own body, with mine. She left nothing by my clothes, a gauntlet, and the cracked bones of my past. But, she took over all of my body, except one. A single, swollen eye, she implanted into her own. An eye to weep with.
