The story of a hunter who kills three guinea fowls A hunter kills three guinea fowls. On his way from the farm, he met a man who wanted to buy one of the fowls. But the hunter refused to sell. There are many other interested buyers but he refused to sell. He later gave reasons for his refusal to sell any of the birds. (a) One of the fowl will be used to pay back old debt. (b) One will be thrown away (c) The third will be used for his own consumption The people again could not reason with him and asked him to sell that which was to be thrown away. He again refused and gave the following full explanation: (a) The one he wanted to use to pay back old debt is for his parent. This is because when he was young the parent provided him with meat for consumption. (b) The one he wanted to throw away is for his wife. Women generally will still say ‘what have you done for me’ no matter how you try to please her. (c) The third fowl is for his personal consumption. For he who works must as well eat. (from J.O.
