The sun seeking vacationers who fill up the beaches of Benidorm, Spain are favorite subjects for photographer Maria Moldes (instagram/mariamoldes). “It’s a tourist town and retirees from all over Europe come here to spend their vacation,” says Maria, who is based in the nearby city of Alicante. “This beach scene makes me laugh because it shows how people only exercise when they go on holiday. By using hyperlapse, I tried to give it a surreal and ironic air.” Maria’s talent for bringing out the absurd and other-worldly from banal beach scenes is the hallmark of Maria’s style. “I love Sci-Fi and mystery movies, and when I go out to make pictures I always let my imagination fly. Reality is often boring and depressing, so I use my imagination to make my own world.
