The year is 2004. The month is February and the day is the 4th. I will never forget this day as long as I live. I was doing nails for a living and went to the eye doctor to get a new script for glasses. The details are as followed. The doctor looks very deeply into my eyes with a light so bright my eyes recoil from pain and the doc says, Yup, I see it. It looks like you need to be putting your keys down today. My mind does a quick spin as I try to make sense of what was just said. I asked him to repeat what he said and he repeated what sounded like, I need to put my keys down... Really? Huh? Huh uh! Those words were foreign to me so he said it differently this time. He said, You may have Retinitis Pigmentosa and that means you do have tunnel vision and its advanced. You are going blind. He then proceeded to tell me that I needed to make another appointment with an Ophthalmologist, he was just a Optometrist. I left his office crying and I had to drive my way back to work. I called my mom and told her what he said and when I finally got back to work I was in hysterics. That was 10 years ago. I have since met the man of my dreams and learned a whole lot about life as a deaf/blind woman/wife/mother/daughter. Im grateful for everything I have and know that Im a strong woman. I have had life kick me down in my prime and here I am to prove that I didnt let it take me down for long. Heres to 10 years and looking forward to the future!
