There are a half-dozen or so national parks in Louisiana, including the Cane River Creole National Historical Park, Poverty Point National Monument, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area that are all affected by the Federal Shutdown that began at midnight on October 1. Also affected are the National Wildlife Areas in Louisiana. Please call ahead if you have plans to visit these areas that may also include recreation areas in our National Forests. We encourage you to visit and support your state parks that are open for you to explore.
