There are two common themes i keep seeing and reading about on fb and while i agree with both there is a 3rd topic, many forget or are oblivious to. The toll this places on the soul of a nation and its people. the ideas of self defense and doing what must be done to protect its citizens as a moral obligation of the army and government of israel is obvious to any who care to use their brains. As well many who can empathize, feel the pain of families in gaza, held hostage by the atrocities of hamas. Yes we even feel for the families who were brought up with hate and have no other view on reality. Even while they cheer and support the activities which are a double war crime, i still feel a pain for their losses, i still see the pain in a mothers heart. To them as well , i too wish that one day we can have peace, with open borders and minds. But there is a third aspect that must be spoken of, what has this conflict done to us. How has these challenging moral dilemmas affected us as a people? Golda Meir once expressed a very poignant thought and i think it expresses an idea that we should all consider. When peace comes, we will perhaps in time be able to forgive the Arabs for killing our sons, but it will be harder for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons. In life we must make tough choices and do what is best in a dilemma of choosing between the lesser of two evils. But we dont have to let these choices define who we are. Keep strong and remember to always be who we are, do what must be done but never forget the ideal, for if you will it, it is no dream. A moral light upon the world a people who can overcome the decision we must make and still show the world the face of hope. This above all is the jewish face of eternity. the hope of a greater tomorrow, a better tomorrow with Utopian acceptance and love is what has given us the courage to always face the future with a grim but strong smile. am yisroel chai!
