There have been times Ive actually been turned down for a charity gig where Im showing up for free, and theyll be like, Oh, we already have the girl, she said. We already have the girl is not just a women-in-comedy thing. Its an everywhere thing. I like to quote Highlander and say, There can be only one . . . woman. And I am not blaming men for this. Its on us, too. It was as a kid and adolescent that I most felt and believed this sentiment that there can be only 1. And *I* wanted to be that 1. Its a toxic way to live, for all of us. Ive grown out of it now. But my daughters both experience the sadly still pervasive attitude that there can be only 1 woman/girl/non-guy.
