There is a lot of vitriol and negative rhetoric currently being directed toward the Islamic minority in Australia. An argument Ive heard on many occasions today, and probably should ignore, presents the notion that Australia is going to Turn out like Europe and an idea that is constantly perpetuated goes a little like The nations of Europe (notably the UK) have been taken over by Islam. Towns are now predominantly Islamic and you darent mention the word Christmas (lest you lose your head). Could any of my European friends provide any clarification on this issue? Specifically the idea that Islam has taken over Europe. Im very confused. Im not immediately aware of a European country with an Islamic head of state or a majority Muslim population, nor (to the best of my admittedly limited knowledge) am I aware of Europeans ceasing to celebrate millenia-old religious holidays. Help me out here. How can I join the unreasonable and fear Islam? Muslims generally being a different ethnicity to me isnt quite enough for me to start chanting Ban the Burqa in the middle of the street. Though it seems like it is enough for everybody else.
