There is one thing that everyone wants when you give a talk in public, give a presentation to your peers, or write an article for public consumption - concision. They dont want to hear someone droning on for hours and hours - they want their information like their food - fast (and preferably deep fried with a decent portion of fries). Islam also promotes concision but theres a huge difference between the concision it promotes and the concision that is commonly sought by the public. The former is exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon, and his speech. He, peace be upon him, said, “I have been favoured over the other Prophets in six ways: I have been given the gift of concise speech... He was able to pack an immense amount of life changing and eternally relevant information within a few words. The latter, sadly, is just the desire to say less, with little regard for any real, meaningful content being conveyed. It is a tool that, unlike the former, is used to suppress free thinking and to stunt any real progression within society. This is beautifully explained by Prof. Noam Chomsky (see link below): https://youtube/watch?v=RlL2Jj-kCNU Aim for the former, but if you find that, at least for the time being, you are unable to cut your word count, without sacrificing the meat and bone of what you want to convey, then its far better to not be concise than to be concise but convey nothing. Its far better to speak for 45 minutes and to change someones view point on life, then to speak for 10 minutes and, however flowery the speech may be, have little to no impact on anyones life.
