There is this pending threat coming from a group of teachers to have a “mass leave” to force our leaders to increase teachers’ salary. In my opinion, it is true, teachers are not given just compensation considering the exigency of our job. However , do we sacrifice our students’ opportunity to learn just because we want to increase our salary ? Teachers having no just compensation is one of the most common issues of conventional wisdom in this country. We can hear this everywhere from cocktail parties, to streets , classrooms , and even on social networks such as Facebook. The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers issued by the Board for Professional Teachers through Resolution No. 435 series of 1997 provides in the PREAMBLE that Teachers are duly licensed professionals who possess dignity and reputation with high moral values as well as technical and professional competence. Let me emphasize to you the line “ with high moral values” . Does this” mass leave “ support the line ? Because of money , have we forgotten our moral fibers as teachers just to have an increase ? Have we forgotten our oath ? We claim to the most noble.. With this action, where is nobility? Before we entered teaching , we already know what kind of life we are heading to , so let me ask , what was your purpose of becoming a teacher ? Is it about the salary , or to touch people’s lives ? Is it really about the money or teaching children how to be more human ? There are many ways to kill a chicken, fight, but not this way. It is right to contest what is rightfully for us , but it is morally inappropriate to defy the very purpose why we exist as teachers. May God bless our Country .
