There was yet another gas pipeline explosion over the weekend, this time in Canada. Witnesses reported that We could see these massive 200- to 300-meter high flames just shooting out of the ground and it literally sounded like a jet plane ...The police were by [Highway] 59 and you could just see little cars out there and you could see in comparison how big the flame was. It was just literally 200 to 300 metres in the air. And bright, I mean lit up the sky. A recent review published by the Wall Street Journal showed that in the US alone there were 1,400 pipeline spills and accidents in the U.S. since 2010. And that 80% of such pipeline accidents were discovered by local residents, not the companies that own the pipelines. Meanwhile in Mayo Shell are continuing to impose their high pressure raw gas pipeline & refinery in Erris with resistance from the community being crushed by the full might of the Irish state. Hundreds of people have been beaten and arrested over the last decade with around a dozen jailed. [AF]
